Happy Sunday, everyone! I'm really excited to be doing this back-to-the-basics series. It gives me a chance to talk about some of my favorite tips and tricks to utilizing everything you have to get you everything that you need.
On any given day, if I were to only be given two makeup items I would choose my beloved mascaras and concealers. It helps brighten and liven my look. In today's post, I'm going to be focusing on how to apply concealer in a way that will make sure you're getting the best bang for your buck.
First things first, you're going to have to choose the color right for you. Now, because concealers are used to conceal blemishes or brighten the under eye, you want to choose a concealer one or two shades lighter than your natural skin color. That means if you're normally medium shade, you're going to want to opt for the next lightest shade. However, you don't want to jump too far and end up looking like you caked and buttered certain areas of your face.
That also means you're going to want for the creamier concealers. You don't want a solid or harsh concealer that will accentuate your trouble areas and draw way too much attention. You need something to blend easily with your foundation or skin to make it subtle.
When you're applying under the eye, you'll want to apply in a triangular shape with the point facing down. Check out the picture below to get a feel for what I mean. This application method will ensure that your bags aren't the center of attention and draw the eyes away from them onto the highlighting of your face. This method allows for a flattering and beautiful dewey look.
Your concealer can also double up as a highlighter. As I mention, you'd want to get a concealer that's a shade or two lighter to cancel out the darkness. This means it can also be used to highlight. Since you're using the concealer to cover up the bags, you can't necessarily use it again to highlight your cheekbone like you'd usually do if you're highlighting. However, you can use it on your eyebrows. It'll also create an illusion of cleaner and more precise brow. I love to use this method only on the very outer corner so it'll blend and be more on the subtle side.
Again you can also use it to make your lipstick or lips pop. Similar to the brow bone, it'll help your lips look precise and clean. With the help of lip liner and concealer, your lips will look bold and beautiful.
And like any other face product, you never want to be swooshing product onto and across your face. Especially in the under eye area, where it is more sensitive, you'll want to use your ring finger to push the product into your foundation. This will help keep it longer lasting and allow for higher coverage.
